The mission of the Escambia County Public Schools Foundation is to enhance education in Escambia County by investing in our children’s future to ensure they graduate on-time and are college and career ready.
The Escambia County Public Schools Foundation is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), direct support organization comprised of business leaders, community volunteers, and school officials with the common goal of enriching and enhancing the quality of education for students and educators in Escambia County School District.
For over 30 years, the Escambia County Public Schools Foundation has successfully encouraged innovation in the classroom and enhanced the quality of education for every student in the Escambia County School District by supporting its schools, students, teachers, and programs. The Foundation has been able to accomplish this by engaging the community in public education and raising private and corporate funds and resources to support District programs and initiatives. Since 1986, it has directed over $10 million back into Escambia County public schools.
Foundation-funded projects and programs include the Annual Golden Apple Awards to recognize Escambia County’s outstanding Teachers of the Year, the Annual MIRA Awards to recognize creative and artistic high school students, and the Annual Academic Awards to recognize the top five senior students from each public high school.
In addition, through its Grants for Excellence Program, the Foundation awards grants to Escambia County K-12 teachers for their collaborative, innovative classroom projects that are not funded through normal budget sources or state and federal funding. The foundation has been able to secure matching grant dollars from the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations.
The Foundation is also the lead agency for Take Stock in Children, a statewide program that offers students from low-resource families an opportunity to receive college scholarships and provides mentors to ensure students achieve the high academic and personal standards required for the program. Through its partnership with Florida Prepaid College Foundation, the Foundation is able to purchase college scholarships and receive a dollar for dollar match. Since Take Stock in Children’s inception in 1996, the Foundation has purchased 266 college scholarships to deserving Escambia County students.
The Foundation is proud to have achieved this 30-year milestone and looks forward to providing Escambia County Public Schools, students, and teachers with opportunities for continued success.
